Default Still excited...

I posted this over in the General Chat section as well, but I had to post it here. I just bought my oldest son his first bike today!! Of my three sons, he is the only one to show any genuine interest in riding. He graduates from high school in June. (at least that is theory we're working under!! lol) I've been thinking about this for some time, but finally started doing a little shopping around, and came across a sweet deal on a gently used 1984 Honda 500 Shadow. (Just over 15,000 kms...still has the original front tire!) This is the exact same bike I started riding on, 20 odd years back. The toughest part will be keeping the secret until 'reveal day'. I've attached a pic.

You are a very cool Dad. Maybe spend another $150 (?) for an MSF course for the boy? Hopefully he'll be safe on it as his first priority. Congrats to him.

+1 on the MSF course. It would be the best $150 you could spend to save his life, IMHO.

That's awesome! My dad helped me get my first bike right before I graduated high school also. I thought it was pretty cool bein' a senior in high school and pull up on my brand new 1200 Custom for class. Ever since then, me and my dad have ridden together. It's been 7 years now, and it's still as fun now as it was then, if not more fun.

I wish it was only $150 for the MSC. I checked with the local safety council: $450 + 5% GST!!!!!!!!!! (our lovely Goods & Service Tax) On the upside, I ended up talking to the head of the program, and mentioned I used to instruct when I lived in Ottawa. He asked me if I was still interested, which I am. I'm going to their instructor orientation night Thursday evening. I figure if I get my instructor's quals renewed, I might be able to get him through the course at a discount. In the meantime, with 5 years of teaching under my belt, and all my old manuals stored down in the basement, I can get him started on the right path. Thanks all for the kind words.
