Default Exhaust overheating heads?

My brother-in-law bought a new Heritage yesterday. When he asked the dealer about aftermarket exhaust he was told to use slip ons instead of replacing the entire system because aftermarket exhausts over heat the heads. Anybody heard of this? I thought it was typical BS except the dealer suggested D&D slipons not HD.

It seems most Dealers are taking lessons from King George!

Tell your brother to find a new dealership.

Sounds like a large steamingpile of BS to me.....like the stock, leaned out, pipes don't over heat the heads.... right !!

The exhaust system despite what some people may believe has very little, if nothing to do with the cooling, or in this case the "overheating" of the cylinder heads. It sounds like This Dealer Representitive might have had some other incentives in mind when suggesting slip-ons. Shame.

I think what they mean is it will run leaner than using slipons so it will get even hotter than before. You need a stage one or at least a fuel management to deal with the EPA lean hot condition. Most will tell you that slipons do not require remapping but just a stock needs it because of the EPA. I hope you dont live in Cal.

Funny thing is I told him it was BS but he's a mechanic, I'm just a dumb a$$ engineer so he won't believe me. I like my brother-in-law but that's how in-laws work. Upside is now I'll have someone to ride with.
