Default 98 Softail Custom, Seat? Ape Hangers?

Hey Fellas

I just bought ared 1998 Softail Custom with 10,000 miles and Vance & Hines exhauston it from a dealer in New Hampshire. I paid $7,995 and got $3500 on my trade, I think I got a pretty good deal, although I wont be picking up the bike until next week because ofTitle issues (lost)with my tade-in. Of course the true test will be when I pick it up and take it down the road.

My first question is generally how you feel about the deal, price?, the year-any known issues?

SEAT? APEHANGERS?

I intend on taking off the stock (Cadillac) seat as soon as possible. Its extremely comfortable but not the style im going for.

Any suggestions for a sleaker lookingtwo-up seat, ive been looking at the Badlandersor Lapera barebones with a pillion. I would rather go with the solo butI think but the woman might kill me ifIthrow her on a pillion after sitting on the massivestock in the showroom ! lol

I alsowant to take off the mini apes and get some Wild 1 "12.5-14" inch apes.
Ive looked at tons of pictures on herebut its hard to judge the trueheight and comfort factor.
Im about 6' tall so I should be alright, im just worried about spending the money and then being uncomfortable if I go too high. Plus either seat with drop me a couple of inches.

Also any suggestions on where to pick up these items at a reasonable price?

IM SORRY for all the questions, Im just so excited to get my bike and start tweeking it out but alsowant to do it right and not waste my money.

Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks fellas, Jason

Pics Soon.

Badlander and LePera are both good looking seats. Not the most comfy. Don't get rid of the stock seat, it is the most comfy seat harley has ever made. You may want it if you ever take a long trip or have a girl friend or wife. My wife hates the Badlander and can't do much more than 100 miles on it.

Look at the LaPera sillouette solo...a little more than the bare bones. Then for your wife go to Buttybuddy.com....a alternative to a narrow passenger pad.

I have a Corbin that I wouldn't trade for any other. It is extremlly comfortable and has plenty of room for a passenger.

Congratulations on getting the new scoot. My 2 cents; DON'T get rid of your stock seat, for long rides the wife/girlfriend won't complain as much. I've got a harley sidekick seat. It's basically the same as the badlander but it's got a little more cushion. My gf couldn't handle the badlander for more then 50 miles but with the sidekick she can do about 150. As far as looks they look about the same. Got mine on E bay for a good deal, actually got a lot of stuff on ebay for great deals. Something else you might wanna look into is the ness 3" forward extensions. I'm 5'10" and these made a world of difference for my comfort. I've been thinking about going with the same apes your talking about but i'm gonna stick to my drag bars for this season.

On my '99 Softail Custom I went with the Mustang solo with removable passenger pillion. This probably has been the most comfortable seat I have had.
