Default ME880 tire pressure in FXSTC

I've been running 38psi in my ME880 back tire (1-up riding only) and will have to replace the tire after ~6600 miles (my original Dunlop gave me 10,000 miles). I don't run the bike hard. I set the pressure based on the owner's manual (is it different for other types of tires?). Is that about right for the mileage amount. Is that the right tire pressure? Thx in advance.

On the metzler's I run 42 to 44 in the rear. They have a tire pressure chart on their site somewhere.

If you're going by your manual, you're seriously under-inflated.

According to the Metezler site, my 210/50R17 I should be running at 40 psi - so 38 is not "that bad"...

From their web site:
For bikes with the following rear tire sizes: 170/80-15, 180/70-15, 150/80-16, 160/80-16, 180/60R16, 180/70R16, 200/60R16, 240/50R16, 140/80-17, 160/70-17 D spec, 170/60R17, 210/50R17, 150/70-18, 180/55ZR18, 200/50R18, 210/40R18, 260/40R18, 280/35R18, 300/35R18, 260/35R21.

ME880 (tires as listed above) Solo, 2 Up Light, 2 Up Heavy
Rear 40, 42, 42

I had ME 880's and ran what they told me to, 38 single 40 doubled up. They were the worst tires I have ever owned. They wore out very quickly! Won't waste my money on them again. My Dunlops went 10k or better! Trying some Avon's now.

38 is that bad if they recommend 40. 2lb will make a big difference on tread life. i ran mine at 40-42 and still lasted 4700 miles so i went back to dunlop. i am sure the lower tire life was my riding style. i could ride like a sport bike with metzler. i still use the metzler on the front for control

Yup. It's funny, my stock Dunlops went 11,000 miles. I've got 5,000 on my ME880s, the back looks great, the front might last the rest of the summer. For whatever reason, I beat the hell out of my front tire. If I can get 8,000 miles out of it, I'll be happy. The grip is so much better with the Metzelers that it's worth the decreased tire life.
