96 vs. 103
I'm looking at a 2011 FLSTC at the dealer with 15,225 miles on it. It has V&H BSL pipes, stage 1 intake, some kind of tuner plus several smaller extras like a windshield bag, small luggage rack, ISO-grips and a few covers etc. on it. They are asking $17,100 for it plus TTL etc.. The bike was bought new from them and all work and add ons were done in their shop.
My riding style is casual for want of a better term. My hero is the tortoise not the hare. I doubt I would ride over the speed limit more than 0.00173% of the time. Most of the time I'd likely be a few mph below the speed limit. I want to see the ride. That's a big part of it to me. That's much better and easier done riding casually.
So, that said, you guys with lots more FLSTC experience than I, how does that bike sound and what would be a reasonable offer on it? How does the 96 compare to the 103? With those pipes and intake and tuner am I likely to get better or worse than stock fuel mpg or be basically the same? What else should I know about or look into or be wary of? Thanks for any and all input on this.

You can get a new 2012 for that price or close to it and when the 2013's come out in a week or 2 you'll be able to get the 2012 leftovers for even cheaper. I wouldn't offer a penny over $15k. For that price I would get the 2012 and put on whatever pipes I like down the road when I could afford it . I'd also wait a week or 2 and see what the 2103's come with.
The 103 is basically the same motor as the 96 put bigger pistons and cylinder and has more TQ. Not a earth shattering amount more but maybe 10 more ? Worth it for me.

I'd have to definitely get a price reduction from the dealer but a couple things going for it are knowing the bike and it's maintenance since new and having warranty on all the HD parts plus any that I add to it within 60 days of purchase. I was thinking of offering about $15,900 for it which would make it about $17k out the door.

If you are ready to buy, make an offer of $15K OTD "and you will buy it today" then keep your mouth shut and wait for the sales manager's response. Should be able buy that bike for $15-$16k OTD. If not shop around. The add ons are worth nothing. A new Heritage can be bought for $2k under MSRP +TTF

Or
$1k more and you can get a brand new one with a 103 motor.
It's your money so do what you want.

The salesman says they gave nothing extra for the add ons with the trade and I'm getting them for free. I'm sure they didn't give a lot extra for them and I'm sure I'm not getting them for free. If so the bike would be lower priced like some others they have.
That said, I won't say they are worth nothing as I planned to put the exact grips on the bike so that's $100 I won't have to spend on a new one. I won't have to pay $50 or so for a windshield bag. I really like the pipes a lot and might not spend $1k on a new set installed but would value them at $500. I don't care for the various Willie G covers but when I buy the LtoR covers I want I figure I can ask half retail for the Willie G's and get 1/3 anyway vs. nothing for bone stock covers. The tuner seems to be a very good thing to have when servicing the bike. I'm not sure when I'd spend $250 on a new one but can certainly value the included one at $100. The luggage rack is at least another $50 worth of value since I'd like to have one on my bike. There may be another small item or two I don't recall but I could value all the add ons close to $1k in value and they'd be $2k or more if I was buying them all new which I wouldn't do.
