Default FXSB (Breakout) Rear Tire Life/ Replacement

Bought my 2014 Breakout last September and had to change my rear tire in May (3100 miles). I had ran the Psi recommended in the OM (42 Psi) which ran my centerline out to almost flat in that amount of miles [had plenty of side tread remaining]. On the 2nd tire, I have lowered my psi to 36 and this did well on the Memorial Day run to the Wall with and without a passenger. I have already logged ~2500 and it looks like, with reducing to 36 psi, I may make it beyond 3000 miles before I have to shell out another $374 for the third tire in less than a year. At $374 (installed), I am looking for a different tire instead of the HD Dunlop that will offer the same performance and stick, but get more miles; THOUGHTS???

3100 seems real low unless you do a lot of burn outs. I would search the forum as there are a lot of threads on tires. Dunlops suck in my opinion. I run Night Dragons and the ride and handling are far superior. As for wear, I don't know yet.

I get about 9000 km (you'll have to do the math) on my rear tire. Aggressive riding, but nothing to extreme. The best tire I've ever had is the michelins. Great contour, awesome wear pattern, cheaper than Dunlop, and last every bit as long.

3100 seems like a really short life. I've got just over 3000 on mine and plenty of tread left on it.

That's really low mileage. I've got 4900 on mine with lots of tread left, but then the temps here don't get really hot - 50's in the morning commute, and 70's or 80's in the PM. I'd never checked my pressure, so I just did - 33 PSI in the 240.

Just checked your location - wow, PEI? I used to have a tshirt from Bro's in Windsor, NS. I guess heat isn't your tire problem, eh? (Sorry, too many jobs in NS.)

I was wondering how those 240 tires were going to hold up. If you get 6k or so with 36psi I would consider that on avg par for the 200mm tire on the fatboys. 42 psi seems high for a 240 tire with no extra weight. my FB manual says 38 cold for standard weight(ie, no passenger) 42 fully loaded.

The mileage is shitty on these 240 dunlops. Im on my third tire at 10,000 miles. Somehow I keep picking up nails or screws before they wear past 3/32 tread left. The tire and wheel warranty covers tire and install. The salesman warned me that they would wear quick and said use, I mean buy the tire and wheel warranty. I think ill try the commanders by Michelin at some point, and jp cycles is having a tire sale right now online. The 240's are going for 200-230 bucks and their are 5 different tires to pick from.

My current 200 on the rear on my NT is looking like it will last a lot longer - lower air pressure and I make a point of using the front brake more than the rear.
