Default XR1200 front caliper on Iron 883

Hi there,

I've been looking to upgrade my front brake on my 2011 Iron and have seen many posts about using the front left caliper of a XR1200 (Harley p/n 42943-08 CALIPER ASY, LH-FRT). This is a bolt on mod for 48's, some even suggest for Iron's. But I have also read that it may not work if you have laced wheels instead of the stock mag ones. But haven't found a definite yes or no to be honest.

Anybody able to shed some light on this?

Thanks!

Thanks Mick. I saw that one (you may notice I posed the same question at the end of that thread).

As far as I can tell from that post is that it probably works on an Iron with stock wheels, but the issue seems to be if you have spoke wheels (like I do)..

Its going to depend on the size of the spoke wheel. The XR caliper
fits fine on a 16" spoke wheel (I have one on my Softail Slim).
It definately does NOT fit if the wheel is 21". The folks over
at the XLForum have pictures where it will not fit the 21".

It "might" fit on a 17" - 19" but I can't say for sure.

good luck,

T.

Replace your 292mm with the newer 300mm rotor & matching caliper instead.

In a thread on XLForums the XR caliper did not fit with a 19 laced wheel. It "BARELY" fits with mags, extremely tight fit. The Brembo caliper off the bagger models did fit with both the laced and mag wheels

Thanks Shiftsace...Thats interesting. Could you be more specific? Maybe like 2009 streetglide? But would you not need larger brakediscs as well?
