Steering Head Stem Bearing Replacement, Help.
#11
First off, mission accomplished.
I tried the dremel approach, but was not comfortable with it. I couldn't do the welder trick because I'm waiting for a replacement gauge on the mig welder. So a buddy of mine, who is an auto mechanic, said he had the tool for the job. He came over with what he called a "lady finger". It's a type of pry bar. I'll attempt to attach a picture. He said you can get them from Harbor Freight. It has a fine enough tip to get into the slight lip of the race. A couple of taps with a hammer on each side of the race moved it flush with the frame neck.
We then used the bearing race install tool upside-down, placed in the gap, & using a pipe down through the neck, knocked it the rest of the way out.
All told about 15 minutes (MAX) per bearing.
Thanks to everyone for all their contributions and help. I hope this helps the next guy.
