d02 - Speed sensor power output shorted high or open
So... my speedo doesn't register speed... or miles... the backlight works and the auto canceling on the turn signal doesn't work either.
All this started when I ran the diagnostic mode on my 98 xlh883 hugger...
I cleared all the codes that read "set" and reran it... D02 showed back up. and that's it.
so I did some research and It yielded some started threads, but unanswered questions. I know we have some good guys on here so allow me to ask:
Where do I go from here? I hav a service manual but...
well the below link is another example of the problem I'm having.

Thanks in advance.

try to clean the speed sensor off and re install clear the code - power off bike wait 20 seconds then turn it back on and check codes - it may work it may not
Sometimes fine metal shavings or a paste like film from normal wear can cover the end of the sensor. This will cause the sensor to work intermittently or not at all.
your turn signal problem is linked to your speedo issue. Your speed sensor reports to your module, that is used for signal cancellation based on distance/speed
this will also make the bike run rough , sputter, die cough blah blah blah ..
buy a new one - replace it and go from there, its cheap enough to change it
