Default 2001 Speedo/Speed Sensor Output

I have a 2001 EGC with the analog speedometer. I put in a new speed sensor in an attempt to get my HK headunit to work with AVC (it had been reprogrammed by ICA for this use, and they checked it again to make sure it was not a problem with the radio). I don't know if that was what did it, but AVC finally started working a few days ago (though not until the second day after installing the sensor).

Unfortunately, the sensor input signal the radio gets is a little erratic sometimes. As I cruise down the road, watching the radio's diagnostic screen for speed sensor input, the volume would jump up and down as the input signal would increase by say 50% or drop to 0, then back to where it should be. Rather annoying when you're motoring.

The turn signals were initially not auto-cancelling after I installed the new speed sensor, but they have since begun working properly again, mostly. I still get the 6 flashes of the turn signals when I turn the bike on, and pulling the code is a Code 31- Alarm output low (despite not having an alarm on this bike- it's not a TSSM, just a TSM).

I'm starting to finger my speedometer as the culprit behind all my problems, although running the diagnostics on it comes up with no set errors. Electrically, the speed sensor output runs to the speedometer (pin 9), then out of the speedo (pin 7) to both the radio plug (pin 10) and the TSM (pin 3). I've tried cleaning the contacts on the speedo and it's harness plug. Without the electrical diagnostic manual, what can I do to dig deeper into the possible causes behind my problems?
