I am working on my neighbors 2002 FLHTC. I'm the default guy because I work on Ducati's and run a MX race shop...Honestly I'm not really all that familiar with the Harleys.
This bike has a problem occasionally idling. At the same time as this problem manifests it has a problem with the speedo working and the auto cancelling of the turn signals.
To me the idling and speed sensors could easily be related. But do the turn signals use the speed sensor to cancel?
I did pull the Speed Sensor and clean some shavings from it. This did seem to help but the problem is back. Are there any diagnostics I can do on the sensor? I have a fluke DMM and know how to use it. Is the speed sensor a simple hall effect pickup that should show low resistance?
Speed sensor, the little plastic doo-hicky sitting on the right top side of the tranny, held in with one socket head cap screw.
Don't bother trying to clean it, it will only work again for a short time, just go get another one, about 60 bucks at the dealer.
