Strange speedometer issue
I have strange issue with my speedometer that is driving me crazy. I have a combination speedometer / tachometer on my Road King (74549-04). The other day the speedometer, tachometer and odometer stopped working. The unit is getting power as the alarm and engine lights are on. I checked all the wires and connections. There is juice getting to the speedo yet its not working. I did some research and read that this problem could be caused by a bad speed sensor. I replaced it but I still have the problem. Ive never heard of a speedometer unit going bad before. I dont want to replace it until I know for sure that the speedo is bad. Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem might be or have had a similar problem? It worked one day and just stopped working the next. Im baffled.

Do your turn signals still self cancel, or do they stay on? If they stay on, then you may have another faulty speed sensor. The symptoms you have described as well as the turn signals not canceling usually relate to the speed sensor. Double check your connections and make sure there are no wires pinched for the new sensor.

The turn signals work fine. I'm just hoping I'm overlooking something and the speedo unit isn't bad.
