Question Flasher Switch Extensions

Gentlemen, a week or so ago (it seems to my fading brain cells) someone gave us hints and tips on fitting the 'Turn Signal Switch Extension Cap Kit'. The kit I bought is #71500179. No, I didn't know it existed either, but mine has just turned up and if anyone can point me to the thread that would be wonderful! I seem to recall there was a short cut or two. Thanks.

tip #1: do not try to install in the cold. headaches and tear will follow if you do.

tip #2:

i can't find where i posted about it, but i trashed two sets of new covers. 1 was from trying to put them on in the cold, the other was from frustration. i gave up and took it to the dealer and let them trash their own stuff. they taught my how to do it and took $50.

but, with that lesson...:

there was success in rice.

the lower switches are easy to replace. just put a little heat on them so they can flex

Cool

It's been a bit warmer, so I threw caution to the wind and made a start today and have successfully buttoned up the left side. If you have the factory security system (my bike is a 2011 SuperLow), to remove the main switch and protect the electrics turn the ignition on with the fob close by, before pulling the fuse. Otherwise it makes a terrible racket! I couldn't find any reference to that in the service manual, but it is in the owners manual. I used a small screwdriver to ease off the old switch button from its pivot.

Inside the switch housing there is a small zip tie that will need to be cut, so the internal harness can be moved and a small screw exposed. Removing that will enable the flasher switch to be jiggled out. The clutch cut-out switch will come with it, the two being connected by short wires. The small screw retains a metal clip which retains in place both those switches. It has two holes to retain the replacement zip tie, so pass it through those holes before reassembling the switches and the screw. Finally zip up the tie and refit to the bars.

More news as it develops.....

I installed them on the wife's 2011 SuperLow and they were a PITA ... take your time, don't force what seems like a round peg into the square hole and all will be well.

Thanks Mr T, they look familiar!

Thanks also FB, that is what I found. I did the left one first as someone had commented that it was easier to do than the right side. I have that treat to look forward to. It's a hell of a lot of effort for so little visible progress!

Well it proved to be no treat at all! However right did eventually triumph over evil, and I got everything back together and working. This 'upgrade' would tax the patience of a Saint!

A few more notes and photos will follow shortly.
