Default Opinions please!! To buy or not to buy?

So here is a 2004 sportster 883 that I found. No upgrade to 1200, 42k miles on it, guy says it's been really well taken care of (I'll find out if I go check it out) so he says if I like it, he'll let it go for $2400, what do you guys think?? I mean I guess the upgrades alone should be decently worth it, no? I know i would add forward controls, and a low profile seat but yeah..

If she's mechanically sound. Sound like the pricing is right on. Not steal, but right where it should be.

Yeah I mean... Most sportsters here are usually pushing 3.5k or up, typically pushing near 5 for a 1200, but I mean I get the milage but I figure even if I sold off a few things I could come out of this not so bad. I find a few for like $2500 but crap like slipping gears or carbs not great and crap lol I mean idk I'm not the best with Harleys, would be my first one but that's why I came here for advice haha

Buy it, you will not be sorry! If it runs and rides ok? If it farts a lot thru the carb (most of them do) it just needs one size larger low speed jet in the carburator but he probably did this long ago. Let us know if you get it.

So would you go for this one, or then blacked out 02 883 over on the other post? 02 with 20k miles is $2700, 04 is $2400 with 40k miles and a few more upgrades

i wouldn't because of the milage, but if you did... spend another 150 on a pre-purchase inspection at a dealer, up it to 1200 (new jugs, belt, etc).... piece of mind

what is your location and budget?

I'd take the rubber mounted 04. My 06 XL1200 has 43k miles on her. Carb bikes are known for being cold blooded, let it warm up and it shouls run fine.

I'm from Chicago, and I have 3k cash at the moment, I mean I could save for more but I just don't really wanna spend too much when I've never really had a cruiser before so i mean who knows if I'll stick with a cruiser, but idk. How difficult are the rebuilds on the 883s or even after the upgrade to 1200? I can't imagine is be spending more than a grand or so on a rebuild if something does go wrong?
