I had the recall done yesterday all they do is put another heat shield over the bare pipe area, it takes about 10 minutes the tech showed me what he did and I said "how could I even get my leg in that position on a mid control bike?"
Took mine in today. No appointment...took about 45 minutes. Or rather it took me 45 minutes to walk accross the street of the service department and sample a buffet restaraunt! Perfect for a "no appointment" late Saturday afternoon walk-in...Saturday before Christmas, 39 degrees and winds whipping around at a steady 25 mph. Oh, and it's a bike of the "original" recall. 2007 XL1200L. The voltage regulator was done before I bought the bike...so according to HD, I'm good to go on the '07 recall list

wife burnt her pant leg before she had the shields put on. Yep BIG ol hole, smoking and everything when we stopped and saw the smoke. Had on jeans that were boot cut and was a little loose allowing them to flap around a little. After that I rode behind her and watched what was happening. Seems thesportsters got those long pegs but she rides with her legs straight down, which allowed the cuff to blow around and layagainst the pipe. Tried to ride with her feet out more but wasn't comfortable. The oem shield just happens to be open at a bad spot that allows this to happen. Damndest thing!!
I got my recall letter in the mail, but didn't worry about sending it back because I was about to change out the pipes. A week or so ago I got a second notice to have the recall completed. The return form had a check box to check off if the bike already had the recall work performed and other options for sold the bike, or bike was stolen. Seemed strange how there was no option to check for exhaust has been changed therefore no recall is needed. Wonder if I will get another notice?
