Default INSTALLING SE SLIP-ONS /ADVICE and/or SUGGESTIONS

I intend to install the SE slip-ons....(08 R ) ...seems to me the tricky part is the donuts/gaskets that go onto the crossover tube...and sliding the stock pipes off.....any good advice and any good suggestions from some of you all that have done this...thanks to all of you on this great forum for your help

Remove the entire pipe. Don't try to slip off the muffler with the rest of the pipe on the bike. Use plenty of wd-40. Possibly a rubber hammer to help break the muffler from the pipe. Those gaskets aren't suppose to be re-used. I've seen some that were fine to re-use and others that were shot when the pipes came off. They're not very expensive. I would just go get a set of those gaskets before I started the job.

Oh, and this will require at least a 6-pack of cold beer.

Yep, take the entire pipe off at the Jugs. You'll never get the mufflers off any other way. At least that's been my experience. They aren't real easy to "slip off" even once you get the pipe off. Like I said, use lots of WD-40 maybe use your knee to help flex that connection. Some are easier than others, but I don't see how you could possibly get the muffler to slip off without removing the entire exhaust.

I changed my SEII slip ons without removing any of the system. Squirted WD40 around the joints the night before and when I changed them the next day it took 30 min. and 2 beers. No tricks just a traight forward change.

Me too, no need to remove the whole exhaust at least on mine anyway. I reused my donuts but the bike only had 1200 miles or so and they were in good shape, I just puffed them up a bit.

Yep, the 04 has the same exhaust setup as your 08. Wow, I'm surprised that could be done without removing the pipes. The first one I did was the most difficult, so all subsequent muffler installs I've done, I haven't even tried to do it without removing the pipes.

Hey...thanks for the suggestions....only 45 minutes and done....there is no need to take off the headpipes unless probably the mufflers were really stuck....there is just enough wiggle room .....my PC 111 wil be here in days and will install my SE a/c at that time...can't wait....2008 1200R..DR

That's good to know. I guess my mufflers (the first one that I installed) were really tight. I had a hell of a time getting them off, even after I got the pipes off the bike. They did have over 6,000 miles at that point, so maybe they were "baked" on.
