Default Life Span of a Sportster

I have 65 000 kms on my '05 Sportster.

Assuming I do regular..good maintence, how many miles / kms can I expect to get on this bike? ...before the motor just 'wears out'?

I love this bike and was just wondering what the 'life span' is on a Sportster?

There's a guy here (I forget his name) that has put over 100,000 miles on his, if that answers your question. It mainly comes down to how you ride it, and what you call good maintenance. If you keep the motor itself stock (don't bore it out, or put bad *** cams, etc.) and you don't hot rod the motor around town (where's the fun in that!), it will last a long time.

100 000 miles is good to hear. I wonder if that's an exception or an expectation.

By "good maintenance" ....
I tell my indy; "Make it 'like new' ...fluids..cables..brakes..tires..what ever it needs."

I assume that fresh oil is the best advice for long life span?

I agree....if your bike isn't smoking and still has compression, then it's fine. 100,000 MILES seems very do-able to me. Just keep rebuilding it, but at some point the lifter blocks will be shot, and since they're not replaceable that's when the case has finally had it....but that at like 250,000 MILES++

I have a friend with 80,000 miles on his, never had a engine problem. He does proper maintenance, but certainly doesn't baby it.

I don't remember that member's name either. He posted a complete list of all of the maintenance and repairs during that 100,000 miles. There were a few major items, but for the most part it was just routinue maintenance.

I have almost 50,000 miles on my bike. The only major repairs have been the clutch (total replacement, due to defective spring plate) and electrical system (replaced both the stator and voltage regulator).

Other than that, just tires, fluid changes, and I did wear out the stock hand grip on the throttle side. Oh, and I also have a slight oil leak now from the rear rocker cover gasket. I have the gasket, just haven't made the repair. And the gasket between the carb and intake is shot.
