Default Building a Molex Cable Extension

I'm currently in the process of swapping my stock bars for a set of Wild1 1 1/4" Pullback Drags with internal wiring. Luckily I was able to get a set from a forum member (Thanks Tx_Outlaw) with switches and wires already run but snipped at the end.

Originally I intended to cut the Molex ends off my stock switches and splice them in but later decided to leave them intact and build a new pair of ends.

It took a little research to gather all the needed parts and tools so I thought I'd post here to make it easier for the next guy.

Best price I found for connectors and pins was: http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/

Very helpful people and they got me what I needed quickly.

Part Numbers are:

Throttle Side - NM-33482-0601 Namz Molex MX 150 Male Black 6-Pin Connector for Harley Davidson (07-10) Models. $4.46

Clutch Side - NM-33482-0802 Namz Molex MX 150 Male Gray 8-Pin Connector for Harley Davidson (07-10) Models $4.46

Pins - 100 Pack - NM-33000-1002 $17.95

Next was trying to find the proper crimper which, it turns out, I had all along. A few years back I ordered from an eBay seller a 9 Die Crimper set that included the proper die. I see they still sell them plus you can order just the crimper with the proper die.

Here are some pics to show the proccess:

The Tool. (BTW use the 1.5 slot)

The Parts

Almost Done

And Finished. I created two different lengths of wire so as not to have a huge bulge after solder and heat shrinking.

The crimper btw does a fine job and I had no trouble inserting them into the Molex connector.

I did manage to get the clutch side soldered up and heat shrunk last night and hope to have the throttle side done tonight. Got to get this done and get back on the road!

Thanks for listening.

Good write up!
Personally I like to solder my crimped on ends after crimping. And I like to use something to seal the ends of the wire like liquid tape but then again I am in FL and moisture gets in everything.

Thanks, Actually the rubber insert that comes with the Molex connector appears to seal the assembly pretty well.

Anyway, got both connectors spliced in and everything operates as it should. Really happy with the look and feel of the new bars.
