Default saddle bags and license plate relocation: iron 883

Hey guys,

I have a 2013 iron 883 and I cant seem to get a definitive answer on the question, even the parts guy at the Harley shop couldnt helps me (or maybe didnt want ).

My bike came from the factory with a left side mount license plate. here is an image URL if the attachment didn't work

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ty_t04_a01.jpg

Here is my question: Do I have to move this damn thing? I love this setup and would like to keep it and get lockable saddlebags (we have a lot of speed cameras in my area).

I have throw overs but would eventually like to move to a more permanent solution? Does anyone have any experience with this? If you were able to keep the license plate bracket side mounted what bags did you buy?

I have a '14 iron, bought here in Canada so my license plate mount is in the middle of the fender. It looks terrible but apparently our laws here don't allow for side-mounted plates.

just guessing here, but I would think saddle bags would work on your bike but you just wouldn't be able to 'close' it back against the bike. Funny the dealership couldn't help you out.. but then again the last two times I was at my local HD dealer I encountered less than desirable service.

Less then desirable is right. This guy walked me on the floor and tried to sell me a new bike that already came with saddle bags. I asked him if he was serious then walked out. Ive seen alot of sportsters with the configuration you mentioned but im trying to avoid spending the extra money for the new bracket and lights if its all possible.

I know this is a really old post, but your solution is exactly what I've been looking for. Do you have any kind of supports under those bags? What brand and model are they? How hard to remove and install? Thx.

The 1200T came with bags so if you felt like paying HD $700+ you could buy a pair of those

There are of course many other sets of bags that can be added

Might be comparing apples to oranges here but but my 48 had the side plate and I had to relocate along with the turn signals and I looked high and low for the relocation bracket and found a nice one from Viking. Plus there bags are somewhat more reasonably priced.
