Question Can you cut your own rear fender? Is it easy?

There's a chopped rear fender you can buy as a replacement for the stock part. How hard is it really to cut the existing fender vs buying a new one which sells for $400 or so?

How experienced are you with pneumatic power tools? If you've never used a die grinder or cutting torch it would be best to pay someone to do the cutting.

And then you still have the problem of paint. Seems to me, once you cut it, you'll have a raw edge that's going to require repainting the entire thing in order to look right.

bring it to a custom bike shop, cost me $50 to have my front fender cut on both sides from a shop. no paint. had it sanded down & painted for free by a friend.

the chopped fender you can buy isnt short enough for alot of people, myself included.

to get away from having to deal with rough edges and paint issues, you cut the front half of the fender off, and slide whats left into the fender well, so the rough edge is hidden, leaving the factory edge in the rear.

Great idea about the custom bike shop. I'll look around and see what's in my area.

Also, good idea for moving the fender forward, but wouldn't you have to drill new holes for the seat mount and side marker lights if you did that?

As far as painting the raw edge goes...once the snow flies this fall I'm sending several parts to my brother in Utah to paint. The fender was on the list.

Seat mount? Sorry wouldnt know. solo rider

The fender holes lined right up, i didnt have an issue with those.
But always measure twice, drink a beer, measure again, drink another beer, then cut.
