The hard part will be keeping it under 65 for another 250 miles! Good luck! I always feel like a young Ricky Bobby when I hop on mine.

One way to determine if it's "broken in" is oil consumption. My 1200C used a modest amount of oil up to about 3000 miles. Since then the usage is insignificant. It's got 8000 miles now.

I'm going to bet you're Ok.

The main point in breaking in a with full roller bearings equipped engine, is to be sure the pistons rings are set as they should be, the gearbox synchros needing some setting either, and only way to do it properly, is to ride the bike up and down the gears, accelerating-decelerating regularly. Avoid highways at a constant speed for the first 500 miles.

there are two "schools" for breaking in a Sportster engine.

1 - RTFM and break-in your bike as advised (ride as a grand-pa)

2 - Ride it as you stole it from the beginnings, which is what I did.

Yeah I'm kind of surprised that we are two pages deep in this thread and it hasn't turned into a war about break-in theory on new engines. Your bike will be fine as has been suggested on here already so don't sweat it.

I'm more concerned the dealer you bought if from didn't school you on the break in process, and have the discussion about the importance of engine breaking, and making sure you don't lug the engine and or go for great distances at the same RPM. Just keep it out of the redline area for the rest of the break in period, change out the oil asap, and alternate your rev range as much as possible.

If it makes you feel any better, I just broke in my Ducati Streetfighter like I just broke out of prison.

Enjoy the new ride brother!
