Default A real rookie question -removing seat strap.....

This one is very simple...

How do you remove the strap from a 2012 Street Glide to put on a solo seat. On my 14 FHLR both sides of the seat strap are easily removed by unscrewing a Philips screw. On the 12 FHLX only the left side has a removable screw and right side appears to have a more permanent type fastener.

The owners manual is no help as it only tells you how to remove the left side and assumes you can do what you want with the right side still fastened - not much help for removing entirely for a solo seat.

I suspect there is a simple answer but I haven't figured it out .....

First remove the screw so one end is free. The other side will come off. Don't remember exactly how, as some are different. Have removed them on all of mine though and it is simple.

I'm guessing it's the same as my 11 FLTRX. Your strap is riveted to a chrome flat piece similar to the right hand side. The RH side piece should still be on your bike. You must remove the bolt that holds the flat chrome piece on. Make sure the black bracket doesn't move to assure your saddlebags pins align up correctly. Then you can remove the RH side in the same way.

Check out Ronnie's Part Finder online. Just follow instruction to get to your year/model & seat, then Saddlebag-guards.

I've tried this 2 times, I hope this works this time.

Sorry, looks like it didn't link you up to the OEM parts section.

i just took the one removable screw out and folded the strap under the seat. done deal. looks like its gone. if i need it back i can just unfold and reattach on one side. shockingly, in some states its illegal to remove it and if a cop with a hair across his a++ stops u he can ticket you for removing it. this way u can just unfold and reattach

it's only illegal to remove it if you keep the 2 up seat on. if you have a solo seat no problem.

to remove it, just remove the bolt holding the front saddlebag mount.

Its illegal to remove it? Wow.....Ive removed that strap on every bike Ive had for the last 25 years. Never really understood what it was for, to be honest. Its not like a passenger would actually hold on to it....Right?
