Default To add lowers, or not to add lowers

Guy I apologize upfront if this has been beat to death, feel free to beat me to death if it has

I have a 2011 street glide. Trying to get this thing ready for me and the wife to do some distance riding, and the subject of lowers came up.

I know that they are not needed per se but what would the do for me? I'm 5 11 if that helps any. I have a feeling I'll throw some speakers in these things if and when I ever get em.

What are your thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Get 'em...bought a like new/used set on local CL in 2011 and they never come off my 09 FLHX. Great for wind deflection, added storage, looks and comfort (IMO).

I run them all year. I commute 80% of the time and rain and wind are less of an issue. (I believe that they allow the motor to run cooler too.)

I find the wind protection reduces fatigue...a cushy seat and floaty shocks make for 8 to 10 hour days, day after day.

my own testing shows oil temps 25º cooler with fairing lowers on- tested on a 105º ambient day

another option is the desert dawgs http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/dese...FVYTHwodvF8HFA to use when it rains or gets chilly. i have a pair on my yamaha....i think i bought a pair for my 2010 Ultra Classic Limited and never put them on. thought never crossed my mind with my 2013. come to think of it, i need to find them. cant go wrong with the hard lowers but its not the only option.

That's crazy. I thought it would possible make the bike run hot (due to the reduced air flow)

Thank everyone for all of the responses.

Mike is right. They just do a good job pushing air to the heads.
You may feel a little more heat behind them. Especially in traffic, but nothing to complain about really.

They sure do help out with fatigue though.

they absolutely make a difference in reducing wind buffeting of the bike. Makes for a much more stable ride. which reduces fatigue, etc
