Default Grommet on Stator Wire leaking oil - help

I have oil leaking from the grommet on the stator wire that passes through the crankcase. Looking at the service manual, there are 2 "sealing o-rings" and 1 "retaining o-ring" on the grommet. There's not a lot of leaking oil, but a drip or 2 every time I park the bike.

Is it possible to replace those 2 sealing o-rings by pulling the grommet out, disconnecting the wires from the voltage regulator, replacing the o-rings and stuffing it back in the crankcase?

I'm trying to avoid taking the whole left side of the engine apart just to replace a couple of o-rings.

Any ideas?

what I would do is to clean it really well with brake or carb cleaner.

clean again

wipe with rubbing alcohol

and then use a little black rtv silicone to seal it.

Ditto on what MKGUITAR suggests, did the same thing on my 09 ultra and it worked fine. The stator, wire, and plug are all one piece and you have to pull the plug back into the primary area to work on it or replace the stator.

...... I've heard of guys that have used RTV with success - maybe try that first. The best fix is to replace the stator c/w grommet. Really not a big job if you have the tools. I've long suspected that excessive heat is what destroys the seal.

I've done what mkguitar suggests, and the RTV sealant is holding up just fine. Maybe not the most attractive solution in terms of appearance, but it works.

...and is a lot less expensive than the upgraded seal with the new stator!

I'm on my second RTV injection, Holding ok for now. Gonna replace stator and regulator with a High performance version(Not HD) when the SE comp craps out. Gonna do bearings, seals, clutch plates, along with Baker comp and adjuster to have the whole primary ready for a FM 107 kit.

OK ... it's unanimous! Black RTV to the rescue. I'll get right on it.

Thanks for everyone's input. That's what makes this forum great,

Well, my sealing job on my '91 ElectraGlide stator grommet lasted about 4,000 miles. It's leaking again. I'm going to redo it again with more silicon and a better cleaning job. Will report back on my success - or failure.

Make sure you cleaned to wires and the housing very, very, very good. Use brake cleaner. Then clean it again.

Use a pick hook to pull back the lip on the grommet, clean, clean and clean it again.
