Lost a saddlebag going down the road, Time to upgrade?
SO 8 miles into my only bike trip of the year I loose a saddle bag. Of course it gets hit by the car following me and explodes into about eight thousand pieces Not worth spending the time about bitchnig about it, just looking for options to replace it. My bike is a one off year color Merlot sunglo. Meaning its about an 8 week wait on parts from harley.
I'm going to need a lower bag, lid, and latch. I thing the mechanism and lock are still good, but i haven't looked yet. Looking at parts I'm going to spend about 900 dollars on parts.
I guess where i'm going with this is guys who have done extended bags, and speaker lids and speakers an amp and paint. I'm guessing that would be 1500ish? I am concerned about a local painter trying to match the flake and color in the sunglo paint and the bags winding up different colors than the rest of the bike.
Any other options I'm missing. I haven't seen a used bag on ebay. Is there anywhere else to look for used parts?

Patience....Get the real deal from Harley...unless you like to piece mill things together...You should have had http://brukus.com/cgi-bin/p/awtp-pro...fasteners...on those bags.

for the O/P and the next Guy:
the Dzus pins have been a potential problem for some time.
As simple as tensioning the pins with a string tied between the loops will hold in place
Your local home depot is a source for an easy preventative fix for under $10
Crown Bolt #43228 speed nut (SMS type U 5/16-18 thread )
Crown Bolt #66808 wing bolt ( 5/16-18 thread X 1" ) if you don't want a wing bolt, then use a bolt
a couple of rubber fender washers too, or reuse the stock ones
if theft is prime mover, replace the 1/4" bolt of the FRONT saddlebag mount with a button head type which cannot easily be turned out with visegrips ( on the rt in pic)-
I am using one of these each side, with the dzus fastener for ease and speed.
I have had the dzus back out on washboard roads, so the 1 bolt gives some security for that

the button head in my pic above will save the front mount from being removed compared to the stock 1/4" bolt which may be turned with a 7/16 wrench when the bags are closed- something your $30 fix doesn;t address.
the stock pins can be released with a screwdriver- any bolt will exclude that-
Unless the lids or latches are busted off, there is zero difference between a "security screw" a wing bolt or a hex head- zero
if you feel better paying 3 X more for everything go ahead, I'm about sharing tips that save money.
this is like locking lug nuts on your custom wheels- bad guys will hammer a craftsman 13/16 deep socket onto the locking lug and it'll turn right off.
this cracks the socket, they go back to sears and trade in for a new one.
the owner has a false sense of security
