Hi all,

It seems I have a severe oil leak on my 2005 roadking custom . Oil is blowing back all over the bottom of the motorcycle and it was a mess until I wash the bike so I could easier locate from where the oil comes. It looks like most of the dripping is coming off the front end (don't have a oil cooler) - The oil filter is not loose , the oil pan is clean of oil and screws are tight .
some dripping occurs under the voltage Regulator area

So what can it be - any ideas ?

as strange as it may sound... take a look at your clutch line - I had (what I thought) oil leak that was driving me crazy - washed, looked, washed, looked - Ya, there it is - no that's not it...

Finally found where my clutch line had rubbed a hole in it - it was not oil - it was trans fluid that was going in the clutch line (which it does) and lowest point was that rub.. Now, if you turyly know yours is an oil leak because your oil is low - then All I can say is to REALLY clean the bottom of your bike and let it run - Just remember any leak can and often will run along something to a lower point and drip off - making it hard to trace back - really have to have a clean area to start with

 

I had something similar and was trans oil coming out of clutch cable adjuster area,

 

I will go along with the above suggestion if it turns out to be an oil leak but be advised that if you ride the bike you will spend forever trying to find where it is coming from. Don't ask me how I know. I thoroughly washed, used degreaser and coated the underside with baby powder. Waste of time. Point is get it clean and try to first find the leak by letting it idle, preferably up on a lift.

 

Make sure, it is not over filled with oil.

 

Also check where the stater plug go's thru the case in the front by the end of the oil filter

 

Seeming to come from the VR area suggests not getting all the "nooks and crannies" cleaned out after an oil filter change. In 75,000 miles of oil changes I have NEVER failed to spill some oil on the front engine mount/VR area. That area is easier to clean before the new filter is installed.

 

99-9/10 % sure its your stator plug if its coming from the front. Given the age of your bike the rubber plug probably shrunk and is leaking. Leaks more at high speed then putting around town.

 

Maybe put some florescent dye in either the engine or trans to take some of the guess work out of it?i found my clutch cable leak(that I thought was engine oil)that way.

 

If its coming from the front its not the trans. Stator is in the primary so I would clean the front of the motor good with brakeclean and run it it will be easy to see if its the stator plug
