Default IDS questions on 07 Ultra

My uncle is going through some issues with his 07 Ultra with the IDS upgrade. He's had it installed for quite some time and I think it just needs rebuilt. My question is, will the OEM 2009+ setup work on a 07 model...I know their are some internal differences like 1-piece isolator vs. 6 pieces. But as a whole system will the new replace the old? Thanks

He would have to mount an entire 09 or newer wheel and that would be a ton of work if not almost impossible.

The IDS is internal to the wheel hub on the newer bikes.

I've done it but it was more of a winter project. It was well worth the time and effort and the cost was less than you would think.

The 08 is the same as the 07 retro fit. 09+ is different. You can buy replacement parts for the 07-08 IDS.

I just installed the IDS kit on my 07 Street Glide and the hardest part was pressing in the 1" bearing. Installation was very easy. Love the way the bike drives after the install of the IDS kit.

Had one put on right after taking delivery of my 2007 Ultra. The bearing wasn't pressed in correctly, probably not seated right, and the bearing needed replacing at about 7,000 miles. That time, the shop had the correct bearing press tools, and it lasted until 32,000 miles, when the bearing wore out again. When the shop ordered the part, they didn't realize that the part number for an 07 was different from the others. Its because the 07 has a smaller diameter axle than 08 and later. It sure made a difference though, and worth the headache.

When I went from the 66 tooth rear pulley to the 68 tooth pulley I replaced the 6 cushions. I was surprised by how snug the new cushions were with both the wheel and the pulley lugs, the old ones had some looseness. Probably the new cushions are all he needs. (08 Road King)
