Default ESP -Worth the money and best investment ?.

Friend of mine's thinking about purchasing the ESP, but somewhat concerned paying $2,500 for a 5 year plan when it comes to his '15 RGS and...

1. All the newest and high technology gadgets go bad such as ABS, infointment (sp.) and the computer modules - How many of you and your bikes had gone downhill because of that ?.

2. Whether the motor, parts and tires gone bad.

3. Warranty voids when he wants to install aftermarket exhaust, headpipe, tuner and air cleaner himself. Dealer tells him that they have to do it themselves and run the dyno to keep the warranty intact.

Please chime in anything you have experienced other than above.

Thanks In Advance,

Thorey

I have had very good luck with ESP but I put a lot of miles on the bike, I would say if a lot of miles like 15-20000 miles a year then it's a good thing to have but if low mileage then hit or miss....I had cams power commander all kinds of different exhaust and I was never denied any coverage because I had a good service manager....

If your friend rides a lot of miles and plans on keeping the motor stock-ish it's not a bad deal. But have him shop around. I got 5-year with tire & wheel for around $1,000 when I bought the bike.

As others have said if a tripper or long days rider with lots of miles its worth it. If it's a bar hopper and walk about saying yep, I own a harley, then no save the money for beer or whiskey.

I did it for peace of mind.
After the Factory Warranty expires, what will you do if something happens out on the road?
I got back a little over half of what it cost me up front, I can live with that.
It could become a hassle without the extended warranty, and it could get expensive.
To each their own...

I don't ride gung ho like I used to , the first 4 years I had the bike I put like 65000 miles on it, fortunately I never have broke down on the road but I did use the ESP a lot... it paid for the whole ESP and some..

If you decide to go with the H-D ESP, shop the internet. Despite what happened with Kutter H-D (now Boardtracker), there are still Harley dealers out there that will sell you the plan for considerably less money than what your friend was quoted.

From a customer service point of view ESP has been fabulous. I have had a couple of claims while traveling and they handled everything promptly with courteous reps. Im not up to my original cost but it is peace of mind.

I had Inner primary bearing replaced, fairing bracket, 3 compensators, fuel sending unit/pump and filter, starter, exhaust bracket ground, and I probably forget something.

In 2 years I had 2 compensators, a stereo, 7 tires, a top end, a stator, and a raft of other things done to my FLHTK.
