Default Speedometer failure

Last week on a cross country ride I lost my speedo and blinker reset.
Speedo worked intermittently for a while then went dead all together. I could probably live without it but I really like the odometer for keeping track of the fuel. The blinker reset is handy too. The bike is a 01 EG, anybody have a similar problem with an easy fix?

Is the bike running ok?

If it is, than it is probably not the speed sensor.

New speedo's from drag start at about $230 up to 500 or so.

The Harley ones run about 300 or so and up.

Ronnies Harley has a microfiche web page that will show all the parts for your year and model.

I do not believe the speedo on an 01 comes from the ECM so no flashing required.

If the bike is not running right, than the speed sensor may need replacing.

You may be able to find another speedometer on the forum or craigslist.

Also....may just need to pull the speed sensor out and clean it, check all plug connections.

Please clarify dead.
Does light in speedometer work.
Are you missing speed, odometer miles and blinker cancel.
Thinking speed sensor on top of transmission needs cleaning or replacement.

The light still works but all function is dead both speed and odometer. It started with the needle bouncing from the ridden speed down 20-30 mph then dropping all the way to zero
and eventually staying at zero.
Is the blinker cancel on the same circuit?

Speed sensor at transmission. Clean it. Easy to access and clean. 20 minutes with simple tools.

yes, mine did same thing, blinker cancel works off distance on the speed o, which comes from the speed sensor, also affects cc. I cleaned mine and charged battery and no more problems from that, going over 2 years now. mine is 2000 ultra

Question 2000 Ultra Speedo Bouncing Back & Forth

Just coming back from a 3 day trip and noticed the speedo going back and forth between 50 & 60. Then it eventually dropped down to 30/40 bouncing between that. I stopped and checked everything didn't see anything broken or leaking. Got back to riding and seemed ok, then after about 5 miles started all over again. Is it possible the speed sensor is crapping our?

You can try cleaning off the speed sensor or just replace it.
