Default Road King Engine Noise

I have a '05 road King and my engine has a tapping noise around 2000 to 2800 rpm's. Any body have any answers? It sounds like a rocker or something in that area.

What pipes do you have? I had a tapping/knocking i SWORE was in the engine or trans and it wound up being the V&H true duals rubbing on the FB mounts and the support off the trans where a pipe clamp is supposed to go. The left pipe was also rubbing on the Primary cover...

I had one at the end of last summer, turned out to be loose exhaust nuts on the aft jug. Good luck.

I had some tapping noises on my 05 as well, worried about the cam tensioners.Had the tensioners replaced along with all the bearings, lifters and push rods, the tensioners probably could have gone another 30 to 40,000,still have alittle noise, runs good I ain't worried about it now.By all means though, torque all exhaust bolts to spec, just to be sure.I had this and valve seals done at about 30,000.How many miles on your bike?

It's probably normal valve train noise. Better get used to it or it'll drive you crazy.

+1 on valve train noise. Going from my Shadow to the Road King back in the day i thought my motor was messed up too with the ticking/tapping until i was reminded "they all sound like that".

I have a 09 RK with 500 miles, definitely makes a tapping noise, took it to the dealer, he said its a little louder than a new one they have there, they're going to check it at the 1k service. 2 year warranty ..no worries.
