Default Dumba$$ install of the day

Got the split vision mirrors for my Limited and went to install today. Read the instructions, including the part about "torque to a ridiculously low value" and proceeded with install. Did the right side, looks good. Proceed to left feeling like I know what I'm doing. Yup, snapped the molded in bolt right off trying to snug it down (probably had the holes misaligned a touch in hindsight).

Now what? Well, cobbled together a way to mount it reasonably securely but not ideal. Sucks but I don't think there's a way to buy just the mounting piece with the bolt. Anyone make the same mistake and have a left side split-vision they want to part with?

I did the same thing. I cut what was left of the plastic stud off, drilled and tapped where the stud was originally, then epoxied a metal stud back in. With 5 minute epoxy, it was a 15 minute job. Works great and no one knows of my mistake.

In my experience all products you buy from HD have a parts list.

Good tips (parts list and the metal stud). I was thinking about the stud myself, just gotta find my taps.

Thanks!

If you're talking about the ones up top that go into the holes in the perch, it is a 5/16-24 thread on the stud. Drill it out, tap and install a manifold double sided stud in it's place with red loctite.

Thanks Dawg, very helpful. I was going to do some digging on what I needed for a stud, so that's much appreciated.
