Default Move passenger backrest 3 inches back on 2008 Road King

Just joined a few forums, got my 2008 Road King FLHR one month ago (260 miles).
Hoping to find some info on moving the passenger backrest from H-D 3 inches back, so the full seat can be used by my wife without pushing me forward (and we´re both regular size...). I like the standard seat, not sure if I need the Tallboy. I am 6' 4" 190lbs and the wife 5'5", 140lbs
The H-D passenger backrest makes the last 3 inches of seat useless. I know that the tourpack will resolve the issue, but we want to use the backrest for around town and local trips.

There have been many threads started about relocating tour packs...Just do a search "relocating tour pack" and you may find the answer your looking for.

Easy fix if you aren't shy. I've done it to 2 backrests now. Take a torch and heat the bottom sides of the backrest where they attach to the side plates, then bend the whole thing back slightly. It'll give you the room you're looking for. It'll discolor the chrome slightly though, but it's not that noticable. Here's a pic of mine without the back seat installed. Finger pointing to the place to heat and bend. Works great and there's not another solution out there short of cutting and rewelding.

Thanks, I was thinking of taking it to one of my friends at the local riders club who has a metal shop, cut the sissy bar piece and weld on a new one that will take the pad and then take it to the chroming shop. Maybe add an extra small support where the new sissy bends backwards and then up again to assure it will not bend over backwards..

I have a stock backrest on my 2012 XL1200c that gives me the same fits. I was thinking I could re-drill the holes about 1.5 to 2 inches to one side. Is there any reason why this wouldnt' work?

Had the same issue with my sissy bar and the solution was to have a welder cut and weld 2" of rod on each side of the bar. Now I have a custom sissy bar with plenty of room. I did have mine re-chromed after but you can also have it powder coated.
