Default Rear facia light

Looking into turning rear facia light into brake light as well as running light on a 2011 street glide.

I would like to do this on my 12' as well but having a hard time spending $130 for an extra lead and element in a bulb. Haven't looked at mine yet to see if the bulb and housing is removable.

if you dismantle the existing unit, you can explore adding leds and wiring them to the brake circuit ----space may be tight in there

I've done that on my FLHTC for the fender tip light.

cheap, easy fun, but I work on electronics and have leds etc at home.

added 6 red leds each side and 6 blue in the center ( for the old blue dot look)- cost was under $10

custom dynamics makes pretty good plug and play solutions for those who don't want to solder

The Harley part is not bulbs. They are LEDs and not serviceable.
One thing that can help with the expense is to sell the original light assembly to recoup some of the cost of the change.
It does add lights when brakes are applied. Well worth the money.

I bought 3 red LED strips for a whopping total of $10. I opened up the housing and took out that crappy LED board with 4 tiny LED's. Then I put the 3 strips inside, and I even lined it with some aluminum foil so as to act as a reflector in there. I soldered 1 stip the existing wire. I soldered the other 2 LED strips to an additional wire and ran that wire next to the other 2 up to the AMP connector. I threw a pin on the end of the wire and slipped it into the empty spot on the AMP connector. If you notice, the AMP connector on the bike has 3 wires going into it (run, brake, ground), the one going to the tri-bar light only has 2 (run and ground), so that third wire will connect to the brake circuit.

Now 1 LED strip burns steady, and when I hit the brake, the other 2 light up, for a total of 3 LED strips.

HD Upgraded Tri-bar light: $130
My upgrade: about $25
