Default Stripped down Road Kings

Hey Road King owners! I'm thinking of making the jump to a touring bike but I can't shake my need for the stripped down look of my Street Bob. I was thinking the RK Classic would be a workable solution. I can run it with apes and no windshield most of the time and set it up for the longer trips in a few secs... My question is - does anyone run a setup like this? Without the bags? And can you post some pics for me to check out?

Thanks

I'll post a pic later. A coworker of mine has a very good example

the touring bike frame is pretty ugly stripped down.

the neck extends forward and the triple trees are reversed from other bikes--- which is why the RK has that big headlight nacelle.

the rear of the bike kinda needs to be hidden by bags as with out, the side covers are pretty ugly as is the swingarm and shocks and the fender mounts

how about modifiying your SB ?- it would be pretty easy to put on a big front end with a 16" wheel and dual discs and you could add touring style bags pretty easily if you wanted.
on most SB's the rear fender sits way up high, drop that down closer to the wheel, or get a fender which has more of a full wrap rather than a bob

kinda gets you the best of both worlds and gets you a frame stance which is similar to the classic shovel of the 70's and early 80's.- the modern touring frame just does not have that same classic look....to my eye anyway, your eye may be different

To me a Road King with out the windshield has to be the finest looking of the current Harleys. Conversely a Road King stripped of bags has to be the most butt ugly Harley ever. They were designed from the start for bags where the Duo-glides it desended from weren't and frame work and shocks reflect it.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I just bought a 2012 FLHRC. Last weekend to the bags off just to see what it would look like and I could not get the bags back on fast enough.... Not a good look at all....

Ok - I get it!! RK without bags will cause immediate blindness. How about some RKs with no winshield and apes? Maybe lowered? I can live with the bags... Just trying to get a handle on what can be done and whether I can have the best of all worlds

Nothing unusual about an RK with no windshield and apes. You will find many examples here. Do a forum search on "apes" and "road king" as a starting point.
Look at this as an example:

And by the way, the example of a "stripped" RK above is not really representative....that's been stripped and cleaned up and given some jewelry....like a nekkid lady with a belly ring, belly chain, and garters, and spray tan. Real deal is quite a bit less sexy.

Check the two links below, starting from the last page and working backwards. It is mostly the "classic" look which I prefer, but there are several sweet examples of what can be done withe both the Road King and the Road King Classic. Plus if you skim through the threads in the Touring section and check peoples signature pictures there are more than a few with bikes like what you are interested in.
