61 duo glide restoration
Hi evry one, i am about to start a resto on a 61 duo glide, the bike is fairly complete with mostly missing chrome trim or worn chrome(rims) the exhaust looks rusty and a strained handle bar. Is there any exixting parts source for these bikes and if so any contact info.

there is a panhead forum here
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/panhead-64/
and other specialty forums and websites out there.
american Iron magazine publishes classic american cycles, check out their website
Bill's cycle in pennsylvania has stuff but I wouldn't do business with them, too many complaints
V twin manufacturing ( Taiwan Tedd) reproduces lots of stuff but it often needs massaging, bending grinding to make fit..mounting holes or tabs may be incorrect and have holes in the wrong places...
swap meets and pack rats are the best sources...stuff shows up on ebay, but there are no deals and you HAVE to know what you are looking for, lotsa fakes and mis-representation
very important that you do no harm..you have to know what you are looking at before you start.
get Bruce Palmer's book ( used copies go for $200...)

A repaint is worth 1/2 as much.
if the frame has been cut, subtract again
if the motor numbers are fake ( common) subtract again
etc. etc.
eventually you get to the point where a running panhead that has been chopped and is mostly a bunch of repro and wrong parts...is worth 4 or 7 grand.
at that point you'd buy it to keep and ride as it is-- "restoring" is not worth the expense.
My 1st panhead, a 53 was a "put together"- I rode it for 12 years and sold it about 10 years ago. and i had an OK '63 lot of stuff wrong on it, but it ran.
and my current ride is a '53 FLF, Original Factory Paint- in a one year only special order color-
this would be a tremendously rare bike...I just need some wealthy fellow who is turning 60 to make me an offer I can't refuse!
You can get into an old bike for not too much cash, but you have to be realistic about what it is, and what you would like it to be...and handy with some tools and some smarts to keep it going
