Default Rear Shock Choices for 500.00 or LESS

Hello, I know this topic has been beaten to death but I have searched, googled and I am still confused.

I have a 2013 Limited and I have decided to put a set of 12" shocks on the rear. I ride 1 up most of the time but when I travel I pack heavy. I like the look of the 12" (thanks to forum members for the pics) plus 1" closer to the ground is fine with me. I am not very knowledgeable about shocks/suspension. I am looking at the Harley Premium Low shocks I know there are better shocks but my limit is around 500.00. I have read some good and bad reviews on the Harley shocks but all the reviews say that the premium shocks are much better than the stock air shocks.

500.00 is a nice chunk of change so if there is another shock I should be considering please let me know. I have been looking through Progressives website but all the model #'s are confusing. I am just looking for a 12" shock that is a nice improvement over stock.

Thanks very much!

I have been looking at the Arnott air shocks with compressor. Hard to beat $500 for an entire air ride system. If you wanted conventional shocks, progressive 440/444 can be found for under 5 beans on ebay.

Don't have to go to eBay for those Progressive prices; I just put a set of 444's on getting them within a day or two from Phat Performance. They are noticeably better then stock!

Did you get 12"? If you got 13" they may ride smoother the the 12" the OP is asking for.

Yes I went with the 13" and from what I have read you are probably correct. I have heard that the 12's do not give the same ride as the 13's.

I got tired of the OEM air shocks bottoming out. Installed progressive 944's. Just returned from a 1200 mile trip to the Outer Banks. She rides like a Coupe de Ville now, just kind of floats down the road. I think they were about $525 from Eastern Performance. They shipped the same day I placed the order. I would buy them again over the OEM air shocks.

Did you ride solo and did you get the heavy duty springs?

progressive 944 is a 13 in shock with a 1 inch lower ride height, but give the full susp. travel,a 12 inch shock will not give you full susp travel.
