Default Engne Oil Level?

I did the 1st oil change on my 07 RKCustom. In the manual it says there is a cold "fill" level and a hot "fill" level. So I fill to the cold filllevel, take a 15 mile test run, then check the hot fill level. Turns out it is at the same levelhot and cold. That is, about halfway on the grid mark on the oil dipstick.

What am I missing here?

Thanks for your help.

I didn’t see too much difference between hot or cold either when I changed the oil on my 07 SG, but there was a small difference. You did check it while it’s on the jiffy stand on level ground right? Did you check it again after it cooled back down?

You have to drive it a 100 miles to get it hot.

Just kidding that should be good enough the expansion of the oil from heat and the oil the went up into the engine and filter probably offset them selves. make sure you check the correct side of the stick, while on teh jiffy stand.

About the only time it will be up to the high level mark is on a 95 degree day after a long hard ride, 40-50 miles in and out of stop and go traffic.

The engine holds 4quarts with a filter and fills itup to the halfway mark when coldis where it needs to be.

I scribed a mark on my dip stick (with a hacksaw blade)at the halfway mark so I can tell at a glance where it needs to be.
