Default 96 vs 103

From what I know, adding slip on mufflers alone with no other mods will give a better sound over stock muffler but will not increase horsepower.

I'm wondering if a 96ci twin cam with slip on mufflers, SE or similar air cleaner and the proper remap would equal (surpass?) the horsepower on an otherwise stock 103ci that has only slip on mufflers?

I would say yes.

A 96", properly race tuned, will prolly have a little more oomph than a 103" with slip-ons.

you would have to select the correct components.

a 'stage 1' 96" will be about 75 HP.

a 103 has more torque to begin with..but if still saddled with stock intake and exhaust will likely have less power than a "stage 1" 96" ( again depending on the components chosen--- louder does not equate to "more power" )

but then it's an apples ( 96) to oranges ( 103) comparison

First off a 96er with slip ons and se cleaner needs no tune, and if u did there wouldn't be 6-7 tq and hp to gain. A better tune than factory may add a few numbers but the extra cubes in the 103 would be higher, barely. This Q is splitting of the smallest hairs, hardly worth asking.

My 2010 96 with exhaust, ac, & tuner would walk all over my 2012 when it was stock.

The only place you would notice that difference is on a dyno and I don't ride on a dyno.
