Default Opinions on HD's 1.4KW Starter (p/n 31619-06A)?

2011 Street Glide w/SE255's & ACR's.

CCP, as follows:
With ACR relay installed: FT: 175, RR: 175
Without ACR relay installed: FT: 230, RR: 230

Getting ready to put in the latest version of HD's SE compensator, High Output Charging System (p/n 29900028) http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...harging-system and a new battery.

Will I gain anything using HD's 1.4KW starter http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...-05-3161906--1, or am I good staying with stock?

Thanks

Default been there

mine wouldnt start when hot with the 255 but my ccp was way too high 215 , had 10.5-1 pistons and heads to boot, have corect cams in now andrews 32 ccp down to 189 now
burnt the starter out at biketoberfest last year. had electric acr's, had a battery cable come loose while on the dyno year before that and the guy just kept cranking it over with it struggling to turn over instead of looking for the obvious. I BOUGHT THE HI-TORQUE starter and it turned over alot faster than it did with the stock one. since i had to blow about 500 bucks on a stock one I figured at the time I would spent the extra on the hi output on , If I recall with wide open throttle and acr's shut off i was getting over 245 on the compression,, now with the right cam to match the build think im about 212 now

I have the HD 1.4. But the only reason is because I replaced the original with a chrome one which is 1.4. I also have the ACR's installed making starting a breeze. Bottom line, I don't think you'll gain anything with the 1.4 over stock if you have ACR's.

You will get a little more oomph with the 1.4 but it won't turn over any faster. The weak link in the starters is the starter clutch which I'm pretty sure is the same in both. I bought an aftermarket 1.4 in chrome for less than the standard Harley starter. I ended up replacing the starter clutch in that one also , so I ended up installing cr's. If your cr's are functioning then there shouldn't be any reason to upgrade the starter.

What's involved in replacing the starter on a 2011 Touring bike (don't have my service manual handy)? Does the exhaust/head pipe need to come off?

Thanks

It comes off real easy in about 10 mins. No need to remove anything except the oil filler/inspection plug. And the power cables of course. Best to disconnect the battery neg first then the starter. Just two socket screws hold it on.

Once my motor gets turned over the first time it's fine. It's the first compression stroke that it struggles on.
