Brake Pad Replacement?
#2
There are a number of options...There is a tool for it that is cheap or a small screwdriver, small C clamp...Do this very slowly when you do this. Be careful not to damage the brake pistons and I always take the top off the master when I do this...But there are alot of simple options if you are careful.
I actually just got done doing this on my SG....

First of all you don't spread the calipers apart. They are bolted together and will come apart once the bolts are removed. Once apart I use a c-clamp to press the piston back in but use something over the piston to protect it from getting damaged. You may want to use an air compressor to full removed the pistons and clean the calipers along with the pistons completely. Check the seals for cracks or tears.

I use the handle of a small crescent wrench. It has smooth, rounded edges so it doesn't hurt the pads (although that doesn't matter if your replacing them). Slide it between the pads even with one set of pistons, turn until they are all the way apart, then move between the other pistons and repeat. If you've never added brake fluid you don't need to take the cover off the master but you might as well because you want to check the level anyway.
