There is a schrader valve on the left side by the shock. Use a pump as it doesn't require much airI have a small compressor with a regulator. You will need a gauge to know the pressure, and yes, more air pressure stiffens the ride.

You don't have air shocks, which I'm sure you've read in your owner's manual. It will also give you ballpark settings to set them at. Your dealer also should have showed you when you took delivery. You only adjust one. You'll have to ride and tweak it a couple times before you get it where you want it. Remember the SG's shocks are 1" shorter so the ride will not be the same as an Ultra.

you have a red shock? do you have air shocks or HD premium on that bike?
yes if the boss says the ride is not good then you adjust the shocks until it is.

i have the street glide special. there is a dial on the left side of the bike when you remove the rear bag. i thought i just turn it and it adjusts the ride. i know i have to read the manual and i will but i am outside out back and don't feel like going inside to get the manual. she says when i hit a hole or railroad tracks she gets a jarring vibration into her back. one time it was so bad she tweaked her back and couldn't go to the gym for 3 weeks

Go here and download the installation sheet. It will help you set the preload.

When you have tried your best to make this work and get fed up go to

http://www.motorcyclemetal.com/index.html
and get custom shocks. JRI or Ohlins

Never use an automatic air pump to fill your shocks. You can blow the seals real easy. HD makes a small hand pump and you only need a few pumps to make a significant change in air pressure.
