new flrt mpg

Averaging 35 to 36 MPG with my Freewheeler so far. I am still in the break in stage of the engine with it. Varied speeds no steady rpm held for any length of time ( 2700 rpm to 3500 rpm most of the time after the first 100 miles kept below 3000 rpm the first 100). The 96 & 103 engines are stroked 88 and tend to like the higher RPM. The owners manual says not to lug the engine during the break in period or over rev it and recommends or says up to 3500 on rpm to be ok until 500 miles.
My Freewheeler runs great no hick ups, flat spots or lack of power. It has plenty of torque and power in the configuration it's in. Stock EFI tuning, stock air box with a K&N factory air filter replacement. Also added D&D exhaust 3 1/2' touring mufflers with the 2" vortex baffles. ( I was very surprised how well it ran set up this way) I plan to leave it this way and maintain the gas mileage as I am real happy with the sound and performance of the trike so far. With more mods I could make it perform better or have more horse power but this would be at the cost of fuel mileage. For me the trike is fine Harley really did a pretty good job with the stock engine in the Freewheeler. like I said I am happy with it and don't need any more power.

Agree with screwball I haven't the slightest idea what I'm getting on mpg nor do I care.i didn't buy it for fuel mileage I bought it for smiles.i don't care if it rattles or gets hot.its a Harley that's what they do.

Well, I have to say that I have always sort of tracked the MPG on my vehicles - car, motorcycle, and now trike. And, I can say that it actually has helped me see something was wrong a time or two and headed off serious issues and their repairs - never on a motorcycle. I guess I am happiest when I can see everything is working properly.
But, I also have to admit that usually after the first 100 fill-ups, I tend to taper off it......
After that, I just check it sparatically....

Got 39mpg on Freewheeler yesterday two up 160 mile round trip. I was pleasantly surprised with this it seems as the engine gets more broke in the mileage has increased a little. I was averaging 35 to 36mpg with the trike solo riding.
Stock EFI tuning factory replacement K&N air filter and D&D 3 1/2" touring mufflers with the 2" Vortex baffles. The Freewheelers sounds awesome and runs great also gets good fuel mileage, can't beat that...
