Default 01 electra glide brake fluid

What brake fluid do I need for an 01 electra glide. The cap says dot 5, but the old fluid is a different color. And, I don't have much breaks on a new to me bike, so I was gonna flush the system to start....

DOT 5 turns color with age. If it says DOT 5 thats what I would use. And as far as i can remember they didn't go to DOT 4 till they switched to ABS brakes.

Cool man, I don't have a manual yet because I just picked this bike up. The brakes are squishy but I'm reading on these forums that it is fairly typical. The mc cover says dot 5. I will try to clean the calipers and pistons, because it's free.

Agree! Just bled all my brakes a few days ago. It loses colour over time and turns a pale yellow eventually, as it becomes cloudy with age.

If you still have the stock rubber pipes you can change them for braided and that will sharpen them up.

I bought an 01 in Sept and put in new dot 5 and cleaned the brake pistons. Made a big change in the brake operation.
