Christian Motorcyclists Host Food Drive to Help those in Need
‘Bikers Fighting Hunger’ kicks off annual food drive, and you can help by donating canned food or just enjoying some great eats.
Harley-Davidson enthusiasts, along with all other kinds of bikers, have long enjoyed a reputation for being the first ones to help out their local communities in need. Whether it means fixing up a veteran’s bike or raising money for worthwhile charities. That also includes the Christian Motorcyclists Association, a nationwide group of faith-based bikers that host a number of events to help those less fortunate. One of those efforts comes to us from the organization’s Alaska-based Midnight Son chapter, who also run Bikers Fighting Hunger.
Bikers Fighting Hunger hosts a series of events each year to, as you probably guessed already, help feed hungry folks in the community. That includes an annual food drive, which just kicked off the first of January in Wasilla, Alaska. This effort encompasses a variety of angles, including the traditional donation bins at various local businesses. But Bikers Fighting Hunger also holds several fundraising dinners to generate additional funds. As CMA rider and Bikers Fighting Hunger founder Glen Butts explained to the Frontiersman, the event has been growing exponentially in recent years.
“It just started growing year by year. Now, it’s gotten to the point everybody looks forward to it every year,” Butts said. “People show up in droves. With the New Year comes a new hope and beginning for all. But some families are in a tough spot and could use our help to make ends meet through the rest of the winter.”
Those interested in assisting with these efforts are able to donate canned foods or cash. Or, you can help out by simply chowing down on some great food. Bikers Fighting Hunger hosts their Roses for Tacos event at Denali Harley Davidson February 15. There you can enjoy some great tacos for $12 or 12 cans of food. Or, you can attend the incredibly popular Spaghetti Feed on February 23 at the Mat-Su Alano Club. Butts expects roughly 150 people to show up for that one, which features his wife’s famous meatballs.
So if you live in area and want to help out, head over here or here for more information. If we lived anywhere near Alaska, we most certainly would. Because who can turn down tacos and spaghetti, especially when the proceeds go to a great cause?
