Motorcycle Shoes

Upstart company’s inventive footwear adds extra visibility for a safer ride.

Motorcyclists are always trying to find ways to make themselves more visible to other motorists. We wear reflective jackets and other gear in an attempt to stand out. But thanks to some upstart companies, we’re starting to see more modern methods of doing so. That even includes motorcycle shoes that feature integrated brake lights and turn signals.

Unlike those light up shoes that your kids wear, these actually serve an important purpose. Roame Zero shoes aim to combine comfort and durability with wireless technology aimed at keeping you safe. The shoes also use D30 padding in the ankle and toe areas for superior impact protection. And their retro look is fairly stylish if you care about such things.

Activate bike’s turn signal and LEDs along the shoe’s sole also light up in yellow in the same direction. When you brake, they light up red.

But the real story behind these shoes is the integrated LED turn signals and brake lights. They connect wirelessly to your motorcycle. So, when you activate the turn signal, the LEDs along the sole of the shoes also light up yellow in the same direction. And when you brake, they light up in red.

To connect the shoes to your bike, you must install a wireless relay box on the turn-signal light system. The maker of the shoes, Integrated Tech Apparel, claims this is an easy process, and the wireless transmitter reportedly comes with every shoe purchase.

The Roame Zero shoes are currently undergoing a Kickstarter campaign, which is already fully funded. But you can still pick up a pair for $299 as part of their early bird special. And considering their multi purpose capability and added safety tech, that seems like a pretty good deal.
