Custom Harley-Davidson Woody Is a Sanded and Stained Termite’s Dream

Harley-Davidson Woody

You might get a splinter or two riding this wild Harley-Davidson woody, but you’re guaranteed to attract attention, too.

There was a time, decades ago, when the woody was a thing in the automotive world, and a popular thing at that. But as one might imagine, the concept of using wood as body panels didn’t work out so well in the real world. Aside from not holding up so well in a crash, wood also requires a bit more maintenance to keep up than paint. But that doesn’t make this strange, custom Harley-Davidson woody, which was recently up for grabs on Craigslist, any less cool.

What’s particularly crazy about this Harley-Davidson woody is the fact that it’s not just some showpiece – it’s a running and ride-ready bike. Regardless, as you’d imagine, it was built specifically to show off, and it does a mighty fine job of that. We imagine that no one could walk by this thing and not be interested in taking a closer look, because it definitely had that effect on us.

This custom chopper is also a bit famous, as it has appeared on the Speed Channel and has reportedly racked up various trophies at biker build-off competitions, according to the seller. The owner has even entered it in woody car shows, just for the heck of it. We imagine that it was the only Harley-Davidson woody in attendance, however, though who really knows?

Aside from its finely sanded and stained bodywork, this bike is built in a chopper/dragster style and utilizes an air ride suspension to raise or lower the stance by up to 6-8 inches. That way, the wooden masterpiece can sit on the ground at shows, but then ride at a more reasonable height on the road. Because you certainly don’t want to scratch up that gorgeous lumber, now do you?

The asking price for this splinter-inducing machine was $15,000, and the listing was removed fairly quickly, so we imagine that it found a new home. Or, perhaps the owner had second thoughts and decided to hang on to their unique ride. And who can blame them? This Harley woody might not be for everyone, but in a day and age when it’s getting harder to attract attention with custom bikes, this one is guaranteed to do just that, everywhere it goes.
