Thunderbike’s Harley-Davidson ‘Road Force 3.0’: Killer Mods, Killer Pricetag
Thunderbike’s Harley-Davidson Fat Boy Road Force 3.0 is ‘a force on two wheels, made for the road.’
All Harley-Davidson conversions are special in their own right, but German outfits have a knack for delivering models that are poles apart from the original. We have a soft spot for an old-school, European-style Harley, and Thunderbike’s Harley-Davidson Road Force 3.0 checks all boxes in its stunning avatar.
The German custom bike builder has quite an elaborate range of custom Fat Boys and considers its Road Force collection to be “one of the most radical conversions” in that lineup. The bike has gone through a variety of treatments, all of which have enhanced its appearance, performance, and overall feel.
Thunderbike also managed to retain most of the original and distinctive Fat Boy features. More than thirty custom parts were used to build the Road Force 3.0. Some of them were built in-house, while others were sourced from Thunderbike’s frequent collaborators.
Road Force’s pièce de résistance is its new and substantial alloy wheels. The original 18-inch wheels have been swapped for a sportier set of 5-spoke wheels. The wheels were sourced from Metzeler, and at the front, we find a 21-inch rim, whereas the rear gets a 23-inch alloy. Then there is the paint job by Ingo Kruse that strikes a terrific balance between glossy and lustreless surfaces. The matte vintage green is offset by shiny accents that enhance Road Force 3.0’s sporty appeal.
The German atelier also describes its Road Force 3.0 as “A force on two wheels, made for the road,” and rightly so because the motorcycle comes packed with brute power courtesy of its 114er Milwaukee-Eight engine. It is also worth noting that Road Force 3.0 gets a lowered front, which should improve the bike’s handling characteristics. Thunderbike’s addition of Flip II handlebars will give riders better control over the bike.
At $5,850 (€4,990), the single-sided swingarm is the most expensive modification. Apart from that, Thunderbike also used custom fenders, Dr. Jekill & Mr. Hyde exhaust system, turn signals with stripe LED, and a wide range of other custom parts to bring this custom ensemble together. The custom additions to this Harley cost $17,600 (€15,000), which does not include the paint job, cost of the donor bike, exhaust system, and cost of labor.
