Seriously? The New S2 Del Mar Reportedly Pumps Out 194 Foot/Pounds of Torque

Be honest: Who among us thought, upon hearing years ago Harley Davidson was going electric, that those skinny, quiet electric motorcycles would be the fastest HD bikes you could buy?

It turns out the LiveWire bikes have been fast from the start, but the second model made, the S2 Del Mar is seriously quick off the line.

How quick? Try zero to 60 mph in three seconds flat. The bike puts out 84 horsepower and is said to have a whopping 194 foot/pounds of torque.

A Thrilling Ride

Bear in mind the S2 Del Mar has not actually been released yet, and these specs are provided by LiveWire.

The Motor Company, which still owns a majority share of LiveWire, has been known to fudge a little on their numbers, and once their motorcycle are released into the wild and independently tested, those numbers are sometimes a little lower.

Still, if this new electric bike is even close to the speed and torque Harley claims, it will be a thrill to ride. It is said to have a top speed of 103 mph.

Great for City, Not Highway Transport

Even more surprising is the fact that LiveWire engineers are said to have concentrated more on practicality than speed with this new model.

For example, the S2 is said to have the ability to take you 113 miles around the city. Freeway mileage drops off sharply, to as little as 43 miles, and the combined range is estimated at 63 miles.

So, the electric bike remains a very viable alternative for scooting around the city, but not so much on the highway.

Fast Charging

Still, the technology that has gone into the new model is significant. LiveWire says the S2 is “built for speed, agility and linear acceleration,” but the accessibility improvements are many.

For example, the bike offers Level 1 and Level 2 charging. A Level 1 charger usually gets you four miles of driving range per hour of charging. Level 2 gets an average of 32 miles per hour of charging. LiveWire’s first electric bike, The One, also offers Level 2 charging.

The S2 has different ride modes “that adapt instantly to road conditions and the rider’s needs.”

Dial in Updates

The company added some more, impressive new technology to the S2, keeping up with other leading electric bike makers.

You will now have the option of monkeying around with your bike through your phone, with “over- the-air” updates (OTA).

That means you can add improvements as the company develops them, like updated software, mobile app pairing, horn and light control and the tire pressure monitoring system.

Available for Reservation

Harley spun off LiveWire into a separate electric motorcycle entity in 2021 and LiveWire announced the S2 back in February of last year.

So while they have released the specs, the company has not yet said when the S2 will actually go on sale to the public.

At this point, you can reserve one through the LiveWire web site. The company set the MSRP at $15,499. That’s about $7,000 cheaper than LiveWire’s first electric bike.
