Just noticed a nasty rattle in 4th gear, no other gears.I always ride with ear plugs and never heard it before but just rebuilt my forks and took it out for a test ride without the earplugs and was shocked at the rattle. Was just going through the neighborhood not fast and when in 4th especially off the gas it really sound nasty. Checked the primary belt, tranny oil for proper fill and even drained some out to look at the magnet on the plug. didn't see anything wrong there. I don't know crap about the tranny so any ideas?
Yes, Les called this morning and said 4th gear had a tooth broken off and some damage to the 5th gear too and the shift fork. He said he can't explain that, doesn't see any reason for that to happen other that it was a bad weak gear. He ordered the parts and will get it done. I had bought a low mileage used gear set from a friend who replaced it with a Baker 6 speed. So I'll put that up for sale. $250. What I paid for it. He said it only had 26,000 miles on it and Les said it looks great. Came on the trap door and with the shift barrel. It's taking so long because we are having bad flooding storms one after another here on Maui.
Been thinking about why 4th gear. When passing I have had a habit of banging into 4th from 5th and nailing it hard. I always used the clutch but that has to be what caused it, been doing it for years, just like that feeling. Won't do it any more though.
