‘H-D Forums’ Asks: What’s in Your Saddlebags?
Sometimes funny, and sometimes useful, this forum thread is always a great read.
Saddlebags are one of the easiest motorcycle inventions to take for granted. Before them, us motorcyclists didn’t have much in the way of on-board storage on our bikes.
On New Year’s Day, Flyer903 started a thread asking a simple question — what do you keep in your saddlebags? It’s a very good question, and the responses range from useful and informative to laugh-out-loud hilarious.
It’s certain to become one for the ages — the sort of thread that becomes an oft-referenced inside joke in the annals of H-D Forums history. We’re glad to have been there from the start. In this post, we’ll share some of our favorite responses so far.
Flyer903 starts off with a few good suggestions. He carries a rain suit, a spare helmet visor and a cleaning cloth, and an air pump for his shocks.
Aitch goes for a bit of dark humor, saying that he carries chloroform, duct tape, a hack saw, trash bags, and a small, foldable shovel in his Street Glide’s saddlebags. It sounds like a Netflix Original series in the making.
DonnieM injects a bit of humor as well, simply saying that he carries “all of the stuff every one else forgets.” We’d like to bring him along when we go riding.
Several members suggest adding a tool kit that goes a bit further than the one included with your motorcycle. More tools are always helpful, especially if you’ve got the space to carry them.
In addition to the basics, unclerog likes to keep a clean microfiber towel and some spray-on quick detailer on board to keep his bike looking its best. Similarly, he keeps a brush on board to keep his beard looking its best as well.
He also adds that he likes to leave enough space to fit a 12-pack of beer. We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you not to drink and ride. However, once you’ve reached your destination, being the only guy with beer on-board could make your campsite party central.
All things considered, there’s not much space in an average pair of saddlebags. However, this thread proves that the experienced motorcyclists here on H-D Forums are experts at making the most out of the space available.
